Science Backed Snacks

Nutrition, fortified for her.

We believe nourishment starts with real food. Every FEM. bar is a delicious date and seed snack, fortified with what women's bodies need: nine essential vitamins and minerals, fibre and creatine, all under 135 calories.

Why it matters

Women's bodies have different needs.

Women's nutritional needs change across the month, through every phase of the menstrual cycle. Yet most snacks are designed for no one in particular. We built FEM. food first: a delicious date and seed bar, fortified with the vitamins and minerals women's bodies rely on, so nourishing yourself is as easy as reaching for a snack.

The hormone connection

Meet vitamin B6.

Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity.

Every FEM. bar provides 30% of your daily vitamin B6 needs (NRV). Of all the nutrients we chose, B6 is the one most closely linked to hormones, which is why it's at the heart of every flavour.

More than micronutrients

Creatine, fibre and fewer calories.

1.5 g creatine

Research suggests women naturally have lower creatine stores than men and tend to get less creatine from their diet.¹ So we've added 1.5 g to every bar.

High in fibre

Made from dates and seeds, every bar is high in fibre.

Under 135 calories

Every flavour comes in at under 135 calories, so it fits into your day.

Made for your cycle

Four phases. One snack that keeps up.

Your body needs different things across the month. Here's how FEM. supports you through each phase.

  1. Days 1–5

    Menstrual

Your period means your body loses iron with each bleed, and energy often dips. Iron contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin, and magnesium contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

  2. Days 6–13

    Follicular

Oestrogen starts to rise and energy builds as your body prepares a new egg. Folate has a role in the process of cell division, and vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function, ready for when you feel like moving more.

    Folate · Vitamin D

  3. Days 14–16

    Ovulation

Oestrogen peaks and an egg is released. Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction, and to the normal function of the immune system.

  4. Days 17–28

    Luteal

Progesterone rises, then both hormones fall before your next period, and many women feel more tired. Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Researchers suggest creatine may be especially relevant in this phase, as hormone shifts change how the body uses energy.

Days are based on a typical 28-day cycle; every cycle is different. Creatine research: Smith-Ryan et al., Nutrients, 2021.

Our mission

Women's health is under-researched. We're changing that.

Women's health has been under-researched for decades, so too many women are left without answers. That's why every year we reinvest 10% of our profits into women's health research, helping more be understood about the female body.
